Hi, I’m Nick Woodhouse, a bassist, educator, and composer based in Lewisville, Texas. I grew up in the small town of Marengo, Illinois, where my musical journey began with studying rudimentary drumming in high school. From there, I branched into various aspects of music, eventually discovering my passion for bass. I studied under incredible mentors like John Floeter, Wesley Morgan, and Joe Policastro, which laid the foundation for my growth as a musician.
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Bass Performance from the University of North Texas, where I had the privilege of learning from renowned bass educators like Jeffery Bradetich, Lynn Seaton, and Eric Hitt. During my time at UNT, I performed in ensembles like the Latin Jazz Band and 3’Oclock Lab Band, as well as singing with the West End Vocal Ensemble.
As a performer, I’ve been fortunate to work with some great groups and projects, including the Rebel Alliance Jazz Ensemble, the Latin jazz scene, and several pop and gospel bands in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. I’ve also played in notable productions like Windish Music’s SodaPops and Bass Hall’s Dream Girls in 2022. What sets me apart on the bass is my versatility, whether it’s slap bass on electric or upright, bow soloing, or even singing and playing simultaneously. I love pushing the boundaries of what’s possible on the bass and helping others do the same.
When I’m not performing, I’m passionate about teaching and sharing my knowledge. My goal is to help students explore and expand their musical capabilities, whether it’s developing a solid groove, improving soloing skills, or even composing their own music. Let’s make some music together!
